All my caterpillars except one have formed chrysalides. What do I do?Updated a year ago
Every once in a while, one caterpillar might take a little bit longer to pupate than his friends. If you have one late caterpillar and the other chrysalides are ready to be moved to the habitat, here's what you can do.
- Move the chrysalides that are ready to the butterfly habitat, and be sure to remove all of the webbing from the chrysalids with a q-tip.
- Then, take a coffee filter and cover the cup with the remaining slowpoke and secure with an elastic band. Cut away the filter paper hanging down.
- When the caterpillar is ready, he will crawl to the top of the cup and attach to the underside of the filter paper. When it is time to move him to the habitat, brush away any webbing and then pin the paper filter with chrysalis attached to the inside mesh of the habitat. The butterfly will emerge safely there.
