Are my bees male or female?Updated 3 months ago
When you look at your Mason Bee straw, you will notice you have six cocoons. The four smaller cocoons are the males, and the two larger cocoons are the females!
When Mason Bees emerge from their nests in the spring, the male bees will emerge first and wait for the females. The larger female bees will emerge a little later! After finding a mate, the female Mason Bee gets to work gathering pollen from nearby plants and mud to construct her amazing nest. She will spend the early summer laying eggs and finding food for her offspring. The male bee's sole purpose is to mate, and once he has completed that task his life cycle typically ends.
