Will my butterflies emerge at the same time?Updated 7 months ago

It's hard to be patient when you're so excited for your butterflies to emerge. The chrysalis stage lasts on average between 7-10 days, and in some cases (like if the weather is cooler) it can take a little longer. On top of that, your caterpillars most likely did not go into the chrysalis stage all at the exact same time, so they will emerge at different intervals. If you have some butterflies that have emerged and some chrysalides that aren't ready, don't worry! Just give them a little bit more time and keep an eye out for the signs that the butterfly is preparing to emerge. 

These signs are:

• The chrysalis will turn a darker color.
• When the butterfly is very close to emerging you will see the outline and pattern of their orange and black wings clearly through the surface of the chrysalis.

Just like humans develop at different rates, the chrysalis phase is unique to every individual butterfly.
