How long do butterflies live?Updated a year ago
All butterflies die within a few weeks after emergence from the chrysalis. The exception to this are those butterflies that emerge near the wintertime and have their physiologies placed on hold by the colder temperatures. In the few weeks of their lives during spring and summer, however, both wild and released Painted ladies will visit flowers and pollinate them, mate, and lay the eggs necessary to start the next generation. Butterflies maintain their populations not through longevity, but by the rapid turnover of generations during the warmer times of the year.
