Release day guidelinesUpdated 7 months ago

We're so excited for your release day! Here are some quick guidelines for a successful release.

  • Make sure you are releasing your butterflies when it is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Butterflies love basking in warm sunshine, so we recommend releasing them at the warmest part of the day.
  • Release in an area that has a lot of plant life and blooming flowers, backyards, parks, and gardens are great places to release.
  • You can either open the habitat and wait for the butterflies to fly out, or you can gently reach in and let the butterflies walk on your hands to lift them out.
  • For the safety of your butterflies, keep an eye out for any wild birds, or family dogs and cats who may decide to get "too involved" in your release.
  • For photo opportunities, drip a few drops of sugar water onto little hands, or have children hold a juicy slice of orange. That way the butterflies can grab a quick snack and you can snap a quick pic!
  • Remind any children attending that they must be quiet and gentle, and step carefully in case any butterflies land on the ground.

Please feel free to share your release day photos with us!
