Tons of insects, from ants, to beetles, to butterflies, go through complete metamorphosis. Insects that go through complete metamorphosis go through four stages, and have a juvenile form that looks very different from their adult form. But there's another process that insects go through called "Incomplete metamorphosis". Let's learn about it! 

 

Incomplete metamorphosis is a three stage process of maturing. The insect hatches from an egg, as a nymph, which is a smaller version of their adult form. Once the nymph has hatched all they have to do is grow into a larger adult, they don't go through any other life cycle stages. Praying mantises, grasshoppers, and cicadas are all examples of insects that go through incomplete metamorphosis.
