What is the webbing in my Cup of Caterpillars™?Updated 5 months ago

When it comes to webs, spiders aren't the only ones who know how to spin a yarn! Have you been watching your Painted Lady caterpillars as they eat, explore and grow? Look closely and you can often see them spinning a silky webbing around themselves! Though not all caterpillar species spin webbing, Painted Lady caterpillars have a variety of uses for it, such as attaching themselves to a surface when forming the chrysalis or preventing themselves from being blown away by winds. Even the smallest of caterpillars are able to form a protective silk "tent" around themselves. So if you see webbing in your Cup of Caterpillars™, it's a good sign!
