What kind of praying mantis does Insect Lore provide?Updated 6 hours ago

Our egg cases are those of the Chinese Praying Mantis (Tenodera sinesis), which are native to China and other areas in Asia. The species was introduced to America in the late 1800s and has been naturalized here for over a century.

The oothecae are wild harvested. In this way, our impact is net-neutral in terms of the Chinese Mantis population because the oothecae have been laid in the fields and meadows of the US. We offer families the opportunity to watch one of nature’s more fascinating life cycles up close and hopefully glean some enthusiasm for biology in general. The nymphs that families release experience the same threats and opportunities in nature as they search for food and try to avoid being eaten themselves.
