What kind of praying mantis does Insect Lore provide?Updated 13 days ago

We sell and ship Tenodera Sinesis (Chinese Praying Mantis) egg cases that are wild harvested from fields and meadows in the eastern United States. The species was introduced to the Americas in the late 1800s and has been naturalized here for over a century.

Since the oothecae are wild harvested, our impact on the Tenodera Sinesis population is net-neutral. We are proud to offer families the opportunity to watch one of nature's more fascinating life cycles up close and glean some enthusiasm for biology in general. The nymphs that families release experience the same threats and opportunities in nature as they search for food and try to avoid being prey themselves.

The United States Department of Agriculture has not classified Tenodera Sinesis has an invasive species. Recent research by the USDA has actually determined that Tendodera Sinesis adults are helpful in the control of damaging Spotted Lantern Flies. You can review their research here: https://www.ars.usda.gov/research/publications/publication/?seqNo115=423898
